Looking after your suit – How can you skip dry cleaning your suit and save some money?
A suit is an essential part of modern man’s wardrobe.

If you want to see a difference the suit makes, try this simple experiment: one evening, go to a nice bar where you don’t know anyone, wearing a jeans and T-shirt. Another evening, step into the same (or some other, but nice) bar wearing a suit and shirt. Notice the difference in the reactions of the people in the bar and the staff. There will be some, believe us!

Wearing a suit appropriately makes you more powerful, charismatic and attractive. The test above, if you try it, will prove that.

How to look after the suits you have so they continue to provide that 'swagg' effect?

If you want your suits to look like new for many years, you must handle them with some care. Follow these steps to keep them in shape:

Always use well shaped, thick, wide hanger to hang your suits in the closet.Always use well shaped, thick, wide hanger to hang your suits in the closet. Never ever leave your suits on those thin wire hangers that you get from the dry cleaner. They are just to be used for transport to your home and to be thrown away later. Pants should be either clamped to the bottom hem so they are pulled into shape by their own weight or carefully thrown over the horizontal bar of the hanger, taking care that they don’t crease.

In case you need to iron the pants, always lay a piece of damp cotton cloth between the iron and the material. Otherwise, the suit will be shiny after ironing.

Try to give the suit a day of rest after being worn for a day or two. If you have worn it for several days, give it more days of rest.

Use a real brush with natural bristlesBefore the suit is hung, it should be given a quick brush. You should use a real brush with natural bristles, not the sticky rolls that use adhesive to pick up fluff because they leave the traces of that adhesive on the material, which can cause damage to it. Go gently with the brush, and don’t forget to turn the pants inside out so you can brush them from the inside, including pockets.

After brushing, it would be the best to let it air for some time on fresh air or in the steamed bathroom. Wool fibers need moisture to maintain their elasticity. A steam bath is just as beneficial to the suit as a sauna is to its owner. A misty air will remove the creases and unpleasant odors from your suit.

Savile Row experts agree that if you follow these steps above regularly, there is no need to dry clean your suits! If you get a stain, it should be treated separately, but regular dry cleaning will not be necessary.

And if you do have to dry clean it, choose carefully where you will send your suit. The critical part of dry cleaning is ironing. If they don’t do it skillfully, the suit can be easily damaged.

By following these few simple steps you can prolong the lifetime of your suits and save some money on dry cleaning. It is a win-win situation, so why not giving it a try?
