DOs and DONTs for larger men to dress smart
February 19th, 2012 | BestMensTies.Com
Everyone is born having a particular body type - larger, tall and skinny, short – and that is something we cannot change but learn how to best live with it.
Acknowledging it and then getting to know what styles of clothes suit you best is the first step towards becoming a well dressed man!
Larger men should follow some basic fashion rules that flatter their build and size. The goal for larger and bulky built men is to appear slimmer.
Buy clothes that fit your body neither too tight nor too baggy, but trimly. Your clothes should just skim your body without hugging it too closely or hanging too loosely.
Wear vertical stripes which elongate your silhouette. Pinstripe suits and shirts will look best on you.
Wear monochromatic attires as they create cleaner visual impression and make you look slimmer. But in order to break the monotonous colorlessness, use accessories like ties and pocket squares to add color to your attire.
Jackets should be well adjusted around your waist area and should fall right below your buttocks.
Wear low rise trousers which sit on your hips. This elongates your upper body.
Wear a belt! It makes your waistline appear slimmer.
Buy longer ties, also called XL or Tall Men’s Ties so that they have enough material for the knot and to fall down to your belt buckle when tied.
Wear pocket squares, they bring attention on your chest, not your belly area.
Don’t wear horizontal, nor diagonal stripes. They both accentuate your size.
Don’t wear clothes with large prints. If you want to wear prints, choose small and far apart spaced prints.
Avoid turtlenecks. Instead, opt in for V-neck sweaters and T-shirts which will visually elongate your neck.
Avoid bulky wool sweaters which will add even more volume to your waist and chest, and instead choose lighter fabrics such as cotton or linen.
Avoid double-vented suit jackets and rather wear single-vented ones.
Don’t stuff your pockets with items. The best would be to empty them all together from any bulky item.
Don’t wear skinny ties, they will look silly on you.
